First Dmart Store Opened –

In 2002, Damani opened the first store of D-Mart in Powai area of ​​Mumbai. From then till today, his company’s stores have expanded continuously.

D-Mart had 55 stores in 2011-12, 62 stores in 2012-13, 75 stores in 2013-14, 89 stores in 2014-15, 110 stores in 2015-16, 131 stores in 2016-17.

There were 176 stores in 2017-18, 214 stores in 2018-19 and today the company has 238 stores in 11 states and one UT in the country.

Damani also holds stakes in multiple companies, including VST Industries and India Cements. Damani publicly holds stakes in 14 companies; the value of his shareholding was about ₹214,049 crore (US$26 billion) in June 2024.

 

In 2020, Damani picked up a 1% stake in Andhra Paper. Damani also picked up 15% stake in India Cements in May 2020 taking his shareholding in India Cements to 19.89%.
